Direct to the point: it smells 85% like Layton. Here, the green apple is missing and the vanilla is less intense, giving way to a citrus note from the bergamot and a very woody, spicy base. The leather and animalic notes are barely noticeable, distancing it from scents like Hugo Boss Absolu. Performance is good, 6 to 8 solid hours on skin with decent projection (I got a decant as a gift, so I’ll keep testing it). It feels more synthetic than the original, so it could be an Arabic dupe despite being from an up-and-coming Italian house. If you’re a collector looking for the best, go for Layton, but for 95% of people, there won’t be any difference (just like with Aventus and Club de Nuit), plus it costs three times less. Personally, I wouldn’t buy it; it’s a pleasant but unnecessary scent. I have many other options before Costume National and Parfums de Marley: my first, second, third, fourth, and fifth purchase. – Scent: 7/10 – Longevity: 8/10 – Projection: 7/10 – Quality: 7.5/10 – Originality: 2/10 – Price: 9/10

Costume National isn’t truly niche, but in some cases, it surpasses it by a long shot, as with this perfume. I think it’s a good proposal with leather and suede notes over wood, lavender, and cedar, creating something enveloping and decisive, yet extremely refined. You can detect a blend of fine spices intertwined with floral touches and a sugar-coated labdanum. It opens beautifully, with floral-spicy stabs dancing under your nose, suggesting something strong and very sweet. Then the sweetness softens, leaving behind an elegant ambroxanized leather that warms up, all wrapped in a delicate blanket of labdanum and flowers with spices like saffron, superbly soft, like being wrapped in a white blanket as the temperature drops. Beautiful, totally unisex, very pleasant, a bright scent of a certain level. (Courtesy of Sejano 77)

Magnificent Layton clone. Until now, the best imitation I knew was Royal Equestrian until I tried this one. RE is excellent with great power, but it’s not as balanced as the original or this one, and when I enjoy it the most is when that strong irradiation fades, moving closer to being almondy rather than apple-like and being quite sweeter than Layton. “I”, on the other hand, is very well mixed from the start and kicks off with the part I like most: the one that still has green apple and spices, but the woods are already very present thanks to the ambroxan. Moreover, the performance is very good, it projects amazingly, and has good longevity. I need to get a bottle as soon as possible, but they’re hard to find.
