I expected more power, but it turns out interesting and complex at first: resinous and dense. All ingredients flow harmoniously with a refined and quality tone, creating a comforting aroma that will delight nature lovers. Nothing synthetic here, everything smells incredibly warm and genuine. Another small gem in perfumery that I discovered thanks to Master Bofifa and that is definitely worth trying.
I was wrong to judge it too quickly; I’ve had it for years and can’t even remember where I got it. I thought it was boring or nothing special, but months ago I tested it again and my opinion changed 100%. Now I wear it more than I should. The opening is a sweet-and-sour bergamot, very striking, with a rich and sharp needle-like touch that lingers. Among those sparkles come herbal notes, especially lavender. The tone is very masculine but not rigid. Sandalwood and white flowers round it off, always sparkling, and gradually a fresh chamomile illusion appears. Tonka bean and vanilla are very elegant and subtle; they are not the stars, just wrapping that melodic, natural and sunny journey. Everything is refreshed with a beautiful oakmoss. Smalto is suitable for any formal occasion; since it’s made for that, it doesn’t fall into the classic suit perfume nor reach casual wear. It’s at a just and achieved midpoint, it’s mastery. Its trail is discreet, but it’s compensated by a prodigious longevity. The impression is of high quality. Smalto should be more known. New note in my notebook: ‘do not write off a fragrance until you give it chances’. Rating: 9/10
